Sacred Cypher
The hip-hop cypher -an artistic explosion of storytelling, inspiration and healing- has inspired IMAN’s Arts & Culture programming from our inception. Literally a circle, the cypher levels the playing field of all who form it. In communal spaces, circles have facilitated peaceful dialogue and meaningful exchange. Spiritual traditions encourage similar circles of Divine remembrance. Connecting us to one another in ways that transcend time, space and the divisive forces of our modern day, the “Sacred Cypher” calls us to higher, more inspired and liberated ways of being.
This event, titled “Sacred Cypher,” will be an intimate, immersive artistic experience that will invite attendees to dig deeper into IMAN’s issue areas and holistic model in addition to performances by IMAN Sacred Cypher Creatives: Tubad and Jasiri X.
From August 25th to September 6th IMAN Sacred Cypher Creatives, Amir “Tubad” Gray and Jasiri X will lead week-long residencies that will foster deep engagement and provide learning exchanges between artists and community members in the form of performances, workshops and a town hall panel. For more information on the residencies, or to sign up for a workshop, please email arts@imancentral.org .
We are encouraging a donation of $10, however, no one will be turned away for lack of funding. Since the nature of this event requires accuracy in the size of the attendees, we are strongly requesting that ticket reservations are limited to people who are confirmed to attend. If you are no longer able to attend, please let us know so that we may release your ticket to others. We welcome all inquiries and comments via arts@imancentral.org.
